Faulkner Paper

Introduction:

This essay was a challenging one in many aspects for me. The novel was difficult, but I felt as though I had a lot of ideas about it. My strength in this essay was having a few concrete ideas to start with. The challenge was that the prompt for the essay was more open-ended than I had ever had in high school. So, I had to create a structure for myself. Writing this paper made me appreciate how much I need to have a clear direction when I write. For this essay I had to create that guiding structure, which was a difficult but important lesson that carried over into my third and final paper. This structure begins to take form in the messy draft that has a lot of notes at the bottom.

Antigone’s Motivation

Introduction:

As this was the first essay of the semester, I wanted to begin my college writing career with as strong of an essay as possible. With this goal in mind, I found the subject to be an interesting challenge. I had never worked with a source in this format before. I enjoyed the opportunity to engage with a source, working to prove certain aspects while challenging others with my own ideas. I felt as though I was confident with my ideas for this essay. The challenge for me was choosing which parts of the story I wanted to include. It was a relatively short book, but there was a lot of action so I had to work to narrow down the many ideas I had in order to make it a more enjoyable and less repetitive read. This was a good first exercise in using evidence as that was an important part of each essay.
